Important Note: Orders taken to propagate plants (where 50% of the cost is paid at time of order and 50% is paid on delivery) – Plants will be despatched as soon as they are large enough. If for any reason, we have a crop failure or cannot deliver those plants to you, we will give you a full refund of the order. However if you subsequently decide you do not require the plants ordered, we regret that we cannot refund first 50% of the order paid (since the order will have taken up time and space at the nursery). However, if you wish to cancel an order immediately, you may phone us, within 48 hours of making the order, requesting a refund and have ready the card you used to make the order transaction on-line.
Terms:
Payment in advance is required for non-account customers. Account application forms are available on request and trade accounts are subject to credit references. Trade account settlement terms are 30 days from invoice date. Interest is chargeable daily @ 4% above the current Bank of England base rate on any amount overdue and unpaid after 30 days.
Claims and Returns:
Any claim made in respect of damaged goods or shortages must be made in writing within 7 days of the delivery date including all relevant details such as arrival date. Any goods which arrive by courier must be inspected by the recipient and signed for. If damage has occurred as a result of courier handling, the driver of the courier vehicle must log the damage and the recipient must write ‘damaged’ along with their signature. If there are no signs of courier damage but you find damaged plants and wish them to be replaced, we may ask you to send back the damaged plant before it is replaced.
Care of plants on arrival:
Plants should be planted in the ground as soon as possible after arrival, unless the information we print about your plants states otherwise (such as ‘protect for the first year, and plant in early, the following spring’). If conditions are frosty or droughty it is advisable to wait for these conditions to pass before planting. Most herbs prefer a well-drained soil so if you have heavy soil it would be advisable to incorporate a peat-free compost and some grit into the planting hole. Water the plant well about ½ hour prior to planting, and water in well after planting. Remember to water in long dry spells until established.
Bee plants are best placed in sheltered, sunny areas because plants generally flower best and attract bees better when they are in such positions. Allow for plants’ mature sizes when planting in, allowing them room to reach their potential and avoid over-crowding.
To care for plants the organic way, it is generally sufficient to feed with a light dressing of well-rotted (garden and household or other such as horse manure) organic compost applied once a year in late winter. It is also advisable to test your soil for pH (acidity/alkalinity) and correct if too acid with lime. Most herbs like near neutral soil, and most herbs prefer a well-drained soil.
Acid-loving plants such as Blueberries should be kept in containers in ericaceous compost, as soil is very hard to adjust from alkaline to acid (though easy to adjust from acid to alkaline using lime). The majority of all plants do not thrive in an acid soil, but around or a fraction under the neutral zone.
Condition:
All plants will be dispatched in good condition. However once these plants have left our nursery, the transit conditions are beyond our control, and we unfortunately cannot accept further liability for them. If they arrive physically damaged, notify us immediately giving all relevant details such as arrival date, and do so within 7 working days in writing, by email or letter. Plants may only be replaced when lost or damaged in transit. Placing of an order will imply acceptance of this condition.
