It is hardy to zone 3. It is in pollen January to March, in flower from March to April. A small bushy tree that produces pretty yellow catkins in spring and shiny green leaves which are retained late into the autumn. Leaves are used in folk remedies for treating several types of cancer (the leaves harvested in the summer and used fresh).The flowers are monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, both sexes on the same plant) and are pollinated by Wind. A good early source of POLLEN for Bees. It can fix Nitrogen in the soil. It is noted for attracting wildlife.
