DECIDUOUS SHRUB growing to 1.2 m (4ft) by 1 m (3ft 3in). Lime tolerant but not good on shallow chalky soil.
Hardy to zone 4. It is in flower from June to August. A refreshing tea is made from the dried leaves, and is a good substitute for china tea but without the caffeine. Used medicinally in the treatment of bronchial complaints including asthma and whooping cough, dysentery, sore throats, tonsillitis etc. A decoction of the bark is used as a skin wash for cancer and venereal sores It can fix Nitrogen. Produces POLLEN & NECTAR for honey and bumble bees.
