Hippophae rhamnoides - Sea Buckthorn ORGANIC 4 plants
Sea Buckthorn
Exceptional fruit! NATIVE DECIDUOUS TREE growing to 6m (19ft) by 2.5m (8ft). Hardy to zone 3. It is in flower in April, and the seeds ripen from September to November. We offer this plant for its exceptional medicinal and culinary qualities found in the bright orange, acidic fruit (although it is not a bee plant that we know of, it has so much to offer that we can’t resist growing it). A super-fruit with high levels of antioxidants, and phytochemicals (in the fruit oil), which is used to treat cardiac disorders, and externally for burns, eczema, radiation injury. Amazingly, it is now being researched as a food with the ability to prevent, halt or maybe even reverse the growth of cancers. It has a high vitamin C content - with an average content (695 mg per 100 grams) about 15 times greater than oranges - placing sea-buckthorn fruit among the most enriched plant sources of vitamin C. The flowers are dioecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but only one sex is to be found on any one plant so both male and female plants must be grown if fruit are desired – why we offer packs of ten, mixed sexes). It can fix Nitrogen in the soil. SEEDLINGS pack of four 15-30cm 3 year old £14.00 (These are pot grown; they will grow vigorously once they are planted)
(OR pack of ten 15-30cm 3 year old plants available £30.00)
