Mentha spicata - Spearmint, 4 large plants

Spearmint: M, N, P, *, Aug-Sept
PERENNIAL HERB growing to 0.6 m (2ft) by 1 m (3ft 3in). Prefers heavy or damp soil. Hardy to zone 3. It is in flower from August to September. A major source of nectar and pollen, it yields 150-200 pounds of honey per acre, and 250-300 pounds of pollen. The true, old ‘British garden mint’, edible raw or cooked with myriad uses but traditionally used as an aid to good digestion. Provides bees with important, strongly antiseptic oil which helps the colony defend the hive from foreign invaders such as insects and mice which hate the oil. If it grows too enthusiastically, it is easily kept in check by pulling. The flowers are pollinated by Bees. Produces POLLEN & NECTAR – particularly large quantities of nectar. It is noted for attracting wildlife. PLANTS 4 large plants £8.00.  Also available singly for £4.80
