DECIDUOUS SUB-SHRUB growing to 1.5 m (5ft) by 1 m (3ft 3in). Prefers free-draining gravel and scree, it is tolerant of cold, drought, chalk (high pH) and salt. Hardy to zone 6. It is in flower from Sep to October. Not a true sage but also a member of the ‘mint’ family. Very attractive to bees, with two-lipped violet-blue flowers produced in long, slender spikes late in the season make good hedging, its leaves giving off a strong mint-sage-like odour. Excellent for building bees’ winter reserves. Medicinally used as a cooling medicine in the treatment of fevers. Produces POLLEN & NECTAR. PLANTS 1 Litre plant £4.50.
