Silybum marianum - Milk Thistle 5g ORGANIC
Milk Thistle: M, N, P, B, *, Jul-Sept
BIENNIAL HERB growing to 1.2 m (4ft) by 1 m (3ft 3in) at a fast rate. Eaten as a vegetable (leaves in salad, spines removed, and roots boiled). Prefers a sunny, well-drained site. Hardy to zone 7. It is in flower from Jul to September. Recent research has confirmed that it has a remarkable ability to protect the liver from damage resulting from many types of poisoning (including alcohol), and mitigates the effects of chemotherapy. It also dramatically improves liver regeneration, which is particularly important in the treatment of cancer since this disease is always characterized by a severely compromised and often partially destroyed liver. It is the seeds which produce the highest levels of its active nutrient ‘silymarin’ (these can be ground and added to food). The flowers are pollinated by Bees. Produces POLLEN & NECTAR. SEEDS ORGANIC: 5g/ £1.55. (Sow direct in spring when soil temperature remains above 10C, plant or sow 0.6m (2ft) apart in rows 0.6m (2ft) apart ).
