Verbena officinalis - Vervain

NATIVE PERENNIAL WILDFLOWER growing to 0.6 m (2ft) by 0.5 m (1ft 8in). Prefers dry, grassy places, especially chalk and limestone. Hardy to zone 4. It is in flower from Jul to September. The stems bear pinkish-lilac flowers in terminal spikes. The flowers are extremely attractive to bees for their abundant nectar in June. Medicinally the leaves and flowering stems are analgesic, antibacterial, anticoagulant, antispasmodic and some remarkable results have been obtained when using this plant in the treatment of certain tumours. Leaves are edible or can be brewed as tea. The flowers are pollinated by Bees, flies, lepidoptera, self. Produces POLLEN & NECTAR. It is noted for attracting wildlife. NB.
